According to Merriam-Webster, there are three definitions of the word, "visibility."
The first is, "the quality or state of being visible." Seems pretty self-explanatory. A state of being seen.
The second definition has a few variables attached:
2a: the degree of clearness (as of the atmosphere or ocean)
specifically : the greatest distance through the atmosphere toward the horizon at which prominent objects can be identified with the naked eye.
Ah, there it is, a trigger word... able to pinpoint with the naked eye. It is easy for the seer to see, but not always so easy for the one being seen. The nakedness mirrored in the eyes of others. Not literally of course, but sometimes being visible--putting yourself out there for the world to hear your message, follow your lead, or critique your creative endeavor feels just as revealing. Exhibitionistic, perhaps. Or maybe just a little fragile.
Other variables from the second definition are what we typically use in marketing, "capability of being readily noticed" and "publicity." Two things necessary for those of us in the entrepreneurial world who must be visible enough to attract our clients and reach our community.
It is the last definition, however, that intrigues me the most:
Now let's break it down for a moment, "Radiant Energy," sounds like the title of an emo band, but actually it's what everything in the universe is literally made of. And I love that. So it's an energy that radiates enough to "evoke visual sensation."
That means that whatever it is has to have enough energy to create a sensation in the rods and cones of the eye of the seer. The brain has to pick up and make sense of the literal vibration of what we want to be seen.
That's why it is so important to be clear and authentic in your message, to speak it out into the world in such a way that the energy it creates reaches the brains and hearts of those who are aligned enough to see it in their mind's eye.
The center, the "seat of intuition." That's where the connection lies between the physical and energetic worlds. It is also why becoming "visible" in a world that has so much trouble seeing Truth, blinded by conditioning and consumed by ego, demands that we speak from our wounded hearts, open and vulnerable.
So no wonder it isn't easy to become visible in our videos, our writing, or our heart-centered work. It takes courage to let go of the judgement of others, and it takes a leap of faith to believe that those who need to hear our message most will indeed receive it.
So... Be brave. Be radiant. Be visible.
